Attic Insulation Calgary
Your attic is where a Calgary home loses heat first. Warm air rises, finds every gap in loose fill or aging batts, and escapes through the roof while your furnace runs to replace it.
Thermal, Acoustical and Air-Sealing in One
Foam does more than hold an R-value. It stops the air leakage that drives ice damming, keeps wind-driven snow and dust out of the attic, and quiets the house under hail and spring rain. For most roof decks we recommend open cell foam; closed cell earns its place where moisture or structure matter most. We assess your attic and recommend the right system, with clear pricing before any work begins.
Upgrades and Retrofits
Older Calgary attics with settled loose fill are prime candidates for an upgrade, and existing homes get the work done without major demolition. Call (587) 802-3874 or request your free estimate.
Why Calgary Attics Lose So Much
The heating season here is long and the temperature difference between a heated house and an attic in January is extreme, so every gap in the ceiling plane is working against you for months at a stretch. The usual faults are shallow blown-in that has settled below its rated depth and a ceiling that was never air sealed, so warm indoor air moves continuously into the attic regardless of how much material is lying above it.
Ice Damming Is an Insulation Symptom
When warm air escapes into the attic it warms the roof deck, snow melts, the water runs to the cold eave and refreezes there. The dam that forms backs water up under the shingles. People treat it as a roofing problem, and roofing is where the damage shows, but the cause is heat and air reaching the deck. Sealing the ceiling plane and getting the insulation and ventilation right is what addresses the mechanism.
Attic Conversions and Finished Spaces
Where an attic is being converted to living space, or is already finished, insulation on the floor is the wrong approach because the conditioned volume now extends into the roof structure. The insulation has to follow the roof line instead, which brings the whole space inside the building envelope. That is a different scope and a different cost from a floor fill, and it should be priced as what it is.
What the Finished Work Should Show
Depth measured and photographed where loose material went in. Consistent thickness across a roof deck where foam was applied, including the awkward runs at the eaves where coverage slips most easily. The attic hatch sealed and insulated, since it is a hole in the ceiling that routinely gets forgotten. Penetrations sealed before anything was laid over them.
Questions
Common questions
Is attic insulation worth it in Alberta?
Yes. The attic is where most Alberta homes lose the most conditioned air, so it is usually the highest-payback area to insulate.
Do you remove the old attic insulation first?
Where the old material is settled, damp or damaged, it comes out before the new insulation goes in, and we quote that step up front.
How long does an attic project take?
Most residential attics are completed in a single day.
